Featured at the Gallery: Tim Anderson, Photographer
Last Saturday (5/15), at the “Language of the Land” Artist Talk, Tim Anderson provided insight to attendees on his creative process and inspiration for the exhibition
Anderson is a photographer, educator and publisher of Shadow & Light Magazine. The exhibition offers reflections on nature by Anderson and fellow artist, Ann Hart Marquis. The two offer two polarizing interpretations on nature through both medium and strategy. Anderson’s realistic approach to digitally capturing his environment is in stark contrast to the abstract, acrylic painting by Marquis. His work is saturated with color, blurring the lines between sharp detail and a fuzzy foreground. Anderson selectively removes any imperfections in the image, maximizing the aesthetic of these highly recognizable New Mexico and Ireland vistas. Anderson, who has a worked in fine art nudes, and surreal composite images, in addition to landscape, commented that his work in landscape is not so different from his other work. When working there is a ‘moment’ that the image speaks to him and becomes inspiring. For example, the human figure emerging among the rocks or in the sky.
The images are further elevated through his unique mounting process which eliminates the need for glass so commonly and intrusively sitting upon photographic work: no glass • no reflections…
